Arizona Outdoor Fun is proud to own one of Arizona’s largest fleets of ATVs and UTVs. Guided desert tours happen daily with various options for both the length and destination of your ride. Whether you enjoy shooting adventures, ghost towns or historical landmarks, the Phoenix desert offers ATV tours endless opportunities for excitement and outdoor fun. But just how safe are ATVs? If you follow the rules of the road and practice the following basic safety tips, the answer is: very!

ATVs do not come with seatbelts despite having very powerful engines. For those very reasons, there are a few safety regulations strictly enforced by Arizona Outdoor Fun staff:

  • Riders must be at least 16 years of age, five feet tall, and weight a minimum of 100 pounds
  • No open toed shoes, dresses or skirts
  • Consult a physician about known medical conditions before riding

Safety gear is always provided for riders and everyone is encouraged to suit up! While it is not commonplace, ATVs can tip over. It is better to prepare yourself with helmets, goggles, boots, and gloves. As an added bonus, this safety gear also doubles to protect your face from the powerful Arizona sun!

Arizona Outdoor Fun staff will always do a pre-ride inspection of your vehicle before heading out to the trail, but it is wise for you to do a quick check yourself just to maintain good safety habits. Look for wear and tear on the tires and rims. Wiggle the handlebars to make sure connections are intact and check all cables and chains. Sprockets should be checked for broken teeth. Be sure the entire bike is well-lubricated and fueled up before heading out.

If you choose to ride without a guide, bring a tool kit and emergency equipment such as a cell phone in the event that your bike breaks down. Ride in groups at all times to ensure that one person can assist or go for help in the event of an emergency. Desert ATV tours come with their own risks. Arizona is home to many types of wildlife and has extreme temperatures during both the day and at night; running out of gas or getting lost can be life-threatening.

When in doubt, follow the “rules of the road” and simply use common sense. Be cautious of blind turns and areas of low visibility. If you cannot see over the crest of a hill, slow down until visibility returns.

Do not ride if you have consumed alcohol or are tired. ATVs are physically demanding and can seriously injure even the fittest person if they flip or crash. Take breaks periodically even if you don’t feel tired to rehydrate and get a snack.

If you are a new rider concerned about ATV safety, take a hands-on ATV RiderCourseSM offered by the ATV Safety Institute. Online classes and quizzes are also available to test your knowledge free of charge.

People do not ride ATVs to race or do tricks – they are made to ride at a moderate speed to enjoy Phoenix sightseeing and take in the beauty nature has to offer. Allow one of our helpful Arizona Outdoor Fun guides to lead you on a desert ATV tour on one of our rental bikes and experience the thrill of the desert for yourself.

Many families in Phoenix host out-of-town guests for the holiday season. More than a few of those guests come from chilly weather and relentless snow, so the bright, sunny sky in Phoenix is a welcome sight! It’s only natural that travelers would want to get up close and personal with one of the most distinct regions of the United States. Whether it’s Thanksgiving in the desert or a Sonoran new year, everyone loves to explore the natural beauty Arizona has to offer.

The biggest attraction for tourists are ATV and UTV quad rentals from our Phoenix office. Arizona Outdoor Fun offers one of the valley’s largest fleets including Rhino UTVs and the Kawasaki Teryx (T-Rex). These bikes have750cc fully automatic transmissions for a smooth ride similar to that of a Jeep. Guided tours lead travelers through the heart of the desert right next to saguaro cactuses and towering mountain peaks. Dirt bike rentals are popular in the area and our experts always know how to guide your guests toward the right option.

While travelers are permitted to reserve ATVs and UTVs on their own, our team always recommends bringing one of our helpful guides along to enhance the experience. Arizona Outdoor Fun’s expert staff has intimate knowledge of the desert and imparts your group with survival tips, fun facts and history about the Old West’s first settlers. You’ll be shocked at how much you never knew about the Grand Canyon State.

Every family has one daredevil ready to take on the world and our team is up to the challenge! For just a small fee, your guided ATV or UTV tour can lead participants ages 14 and older to an outdoor shooting range where you will meet NRA-certified instructors ready to guide you in proper shooting techniques and target practice. This is a great option for families looking to add some excitement to their lives in a safe, educational space.

Arizona Outdoor Fun is proud to announce its support of Make-A-Wish Arizona, the local chapter of the national wish granting organization which prides itself on integrity, community connections, and granting the one true wish of children with life-threatening medical conditions.

Planning family adventures in Phoenix is what Arizona Outdoor Fun does best. Supporting children and making their wishes come true is a natural evolution of this company’s values.

Arizona Outdoor Fun representative Tara Roether said, “We knew we wanted to work with a charity that made a difference in children's lives… after interviewing several we came upon Make-A-Wish Arizona and we knew right away that this was the one. Wishes give kids the courage to battle their illnesses when they need it most.” Arizona Outdoor Fun has decided their support of Make-A-Wish Arizona will be an ongoing commitment. This year they plan to grant one wish, but hope to get the support they need to grant several wishes in coming years.

Founded in 1980, Make-A-Wish Arizona is the founding chapter of the worldwide wish-granting organization. Today each wish costs an average of $10,000, but with volunteers and charitable contributions flowing in globally, Make-A-Wish Arizona has granted nearly 5,000 wishes total. Make-A-Wish’s concept has become so popular it now encompasses 61 chapters in the U.S. and 37 chapters globally, granting more than 350,000 wishes worldwide over the past 35 years.

It is amazing what can happen when communities come together to grant wishes. From Phoenix teambuilding events and sightseeing to granting wishes of children nationwide, Arizona Outdoor Fun is committed to giving back to our community and building unforgettable experiences families can enjoy together. There is never a shortage of things to do in Phoenix, especially when it comes to doing good in the world.
